The annual Straw Bear Festival returns to Whittlesey this weekend and is set to lift your spirits with some tunes, dancing, beers and (straw) bears!
It’s the winter gathering we all need as the Straw Bear processes through the streets stopping off for folk tunes and dancing displays throughout the town.
This ancient tradition always sees big crowds having a great time lining the streets and packing the pubs so it’s great to have it back. Wrap up warm and don't miss out - it's a brilliant atmosphere.
Douglas Kell, Whittlesea Straw Bear Director told ESP - “It’ll be great getting the Bear back onto the streets of Whittlesey after the enforced break due to Covid. Although we are running a smaller scale festival this year we still expect the normal life and energy the Bear, and dance teams, bring to the town. Get yourself along and importantly have fun!”
There won’t be a Saturday night event or Sunday bear burning event being run this year, but the organisers are hoping to reintroduce them once again in future.
The concert and dance is on Friday January 13 and the main Straw Bear procession starts at 10.30am Saturday January 14.
There’ll be story telling sessions on Saturday and music at various venues with the finale at 3.30pm.
