OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES OPEN UP AT TALLINGTON LAKES

After months of gyms and activity locations being closed, never has enjoying the great outdoors been more important to us than it has this year.

There’s no doubt that during lockdown the chance to get out even for just an hour’s exercise made a huge difference to our mental wellbeing as well as our physical health. It’s my hope that more people will continue this (and more) as a permanent part of their lifestyle, especially those who didn’t do so much before lockdown began.

It’s been great to see so many people out walking, running, cycling and generally making the most of outdoor space but as restrictions have eased and venues open their doors again, you can now expand your range of activities and try something a little more exciting again.

I’ve often headed down to enjoy the many activities at Tallington Lakes but having recently bit the bullet and signed up for a full Ironman for next year, I really need to fast track my open water swimming skills! I’m not a strong swimmer but in July 2021 will have to swim 2.4 miles before jumping on a bike for 112 miles, and then cap it off with running a full marathon, all in the same day. YIKES!

So it’s great that the centre’s now able to offer much of its outdoor activities once again – after all if you’re going to social distance I can’t think of many better ways than on a stand up paddle board (SUP), or kayaking on the open water on a hot summer’s day!

Mindful of the fact we still have a virus to contend with, the team at Tallington Lakes have implemented all the necessary safety measures so that we can all get out there safely again or pick up some great kit in the Pro Shop to make the most of being outdoors over the coming weeks.

You can now once again try out SUPing, kayaking, open water swimming, water skiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, climbing, tobogganing, skiing and snowboarding but of course there are various restrictions and guidelines to follow.

There are certain time constraints and everything has to be pre-booked but while you might need to plan a little more at least we can take to the water or the slopes and enjoy a taste of freedom.

The outdoor swimming pool has also recently reopened in accordance with government COVID-19 guidelines – I’ve seen families really enjoying this in the baking heat.

If all this exercise is new to you and you need the right gear to get started – or if you need to upgrade your kit – I always find the crew in the Pro Shop really helpful and they do know their stuff. Walking is a great way to simply build in more movement in your life – it’s really not all about flashy jet skis or being able to run marathons! It’s just about getting healthier.

Tallington Lakes Pro Shop have introduced a range of walking kit and footwear so pop down and pick their brains on what might be best for you.

Expand your activity options and make a splash at Tallington Lakes, but plan ahead to avoid missing out and book yourself a slot on 01778 34 7000. I might see you there!
