What better way to spend a gloomy winter afternoon than looking around one of the most beautiful buildings in England, in the company of a friendly volunteer guide?
Peterborough Cathedral is offering midweek guided tours during December, on most days between Monday and Friday at 2pm*, and on Saturdays at 11.30am.
During the 1 hour and 15 minute tour you will find out more about the magnificent architectural treasures of the building and hear some of its amazing stories. Find out where St Oswald’s arm was kept, what happened at Katharine of Aragon’s funeral and how the building was eventually restored after the rampage of Oliver Cromwell’s men. Spend time looking at the intricately decorated ceilings and hear about when and how they were made.
You can buy Cathedral Guided Tour tickets at the Peterborough Information Centre on Bridge Street (01733 452336) or via the Peterborough Cathedral website at http://shop.peterborough-cathedral.org.uk/tour or at the Cathedral Welcome Desk on the day of the tour. Tickets are £8 (£6 concessions and accompanied children free of charge).
* Due to other events in the Cathedral there will be no guided tours on these dates: 2nd, 10th, 11th, 16th, 25th and 26th December.
In January, Cathedral Guided Tours will be on Saturdays only, at 2pm. There will also be a tour at 2pm on New Year’s Day.
