SOLACE SCULPTURE IN PETERBOROUGH CATHEDTRAL

ree

A breathtaking glass sculpture goes on show at Peterborough Cathedral this week from Wednesday November 5 until Sunday December 1.

Standing at 10 feet high, Solace is a pair of shimmering glass wings, symbolising freedom, fragility, strength, and protection.

Created from more than 100 individually hot-sculpted glass feathers, each feather features fine white canework to evoke the nature of real wings.

The iron framework and subtle lighting bring the piece to life, casting an ethereal glow.

Created by artist Layne Rowe, Solace invites everyone of all backgrounds to pause, reflect, and even step into the space between the wings.

It will be the perfect photo for the time of year so make sure you pop in and take a look.

Originally created in 2020 for St Albans Abbey, Solace began as a response to the collective grief and loss experienced during the pandemic. Since then, it’s been exhibited at Ely Cathedral, The Chelsea Flower Show, The British Glass Biennale, Sheffield Cathedral, and other notable venues.

Most recently, it was displayed at Fenland Crematorium for Angel Day, where it provided a space for remembrance and reflection.

Now, as it arrives at Peterborough Cathedral, Solace continues its journey as a powerful symbol of hope, resilience, and shared humanity in troubled times.
