Peterborough’s Showcase Cinemas has been selected as the first site to exclusively stream a video gaming championship – and are giving away two pairs of tickets for this unique event featuring the legendary shooter Halo.
The Boongate-based cinemas have joined forces with the European Gaming League to bring this live e-Sports event to the big screen for the first time, Sunday February 22, starting at 11.15am, with tickets open to anyone aged 16 years or older.
Halo Championship Series: Battle of Europe – a 4×4 player tournament based on the Halo 2: Anniversary game – is streamed live from the grand final in central London, and will then run non-stop on a dedicated screen until approx 7.30pm, when the winning team is crowned.
At only £10 a ticket, this marks fantastic value for money, and will also offer special food and drink packages – with customers upgrading to the luxurious XLR seating also receiving an exclusive Halo T-shirt.
Europe’s best players will battle it out for the £10,000 prize haul and a wild card place at the Halo Championship Series Season Finals in Boston, USA, in March – with the event featuring live commentary from Europe’s top gaming talent.
Gaming is now a multi-million dollar industry in the entertainment sector, and some lucky gamers even make a living from games such as the Halo and Call of Duty series.
Glen Eliot, founder of the European Gaming League, says: “We are very excited to be partnering with Showcase Cinemas in bringing the UK’s first-ever console e-Sports event shown live on a cinema screen.”
Jonathan Wheeler, general manager of Showcase Cinemas Peterborough, echoed Glen’s enthusiasm: “We are really, really excited to be showing this event, particularly being chosen as the first Showcase Cinemas to do this.
“The tournament will be an all-day event on a dedicated screen, showing non-stop coverage, with e-Sports being a massive industry which is continuing to grow.”
