Local actor and Harry Potter star Warwick Davis is this year’s celebrity guest switching on Serpentine Green’s Christmas lights on Thursday November 13.

The Yaxley film star – who played Professor Filius Flitwick in the Harry Potter movies – will switch on the lights at 6.30pm.

Having heard that Warwick is once again heading off to a galaxy far, far away with a part in the latest Star Wars movie, (having started his career as an Ewok!) there’s been added excitement about the news he’s the one to turn on the Christmas lights but warwick told ESP he’s keen to support the city.

“It’s the area where you live and you’ve got to look after those people,” said Warwick. “You see them all the time and I think it’s important you do things that support the local area – not for selfish reasons – a lot of things I do here locally don’t benefit me directly, but I think it’s nice that you’re benefitting the people in the area that you live in. It’s been good to me for the last 20 odd years that I have lived here.”

Warwick’s been enjoying fantastic success lately with not just his film career but TV shows such as Life’s Too Short, An Idiot Abroad, Warwick’s Weekend Escapes and most recently hosting Celebrity Squares.

We can’t wait to see him back in Peterborough and he told ESP he can’t wait to light up Serpentine Green!

“It’s always lovely doing lights switch ons – everyone’s just getting into the festive spirit – it really kicks off Christmas for a lot of people going to these sort of switch on events. It starts the Christmas shopping season for a lot of people and gets them into the spirit of it.

“Personally I’m one of those people who leaves it to the last minute and every year I say I’m going to start in October and it’s November already and I haven’t even started to think about it. Hopefully it’ll remind me that I need to get on with it too!”

The fun will start at 4.30pm when the grotto run by the RNIB opens. There will be lots of entertainment from 5pm including guest appearances from a couple of POSH players and the event is hosted by Kev & Ros from the Heart FM breakfast show.

David Wait, Serpentine Green manager told ESP – “Warwick is an absolute legend to young and old alike. We are thrilled that he is taking the time to come to Serpentine Green.”

ESP will be there to capture all the action of course so smile if you see our photographer on the night!

Santa opens his grotto that day at 4.30pm and will then be there again on Friday November 21  10am to 6pm (Fridays and Saturdays( until Sunday December 14 (Sundays 10am-4pm). Then from  Monday December 15 Santa will be in residence every day from 10am to 6pm and on Sundays 10am-4pm. On Christmas Eve the big man will leave the grotto at 2pm to get ready for his long night ahead.

Tickets for the grotto are £5 and this includes a gift for each child. Santa has chosen special gifts for each age group from babies through to teenagers. He has even consulted the RNIB to find perfect gifts for children with a visual impairment.
