IKEA don’t make flat pack dragon boats so the team from Gable Events had to wheel a full size craft into the distribution centre for the launch with the event’s new sponsor!
As well as being the official sponsor, a team from IKEA Peterborough were the first crew to sign up to the festival which will be held on Saturday June 8 at Peterborough Rowing Club. It’s hoped up to 47 more teams will challenge them on the water.
ESP is proud to be the print media partner for the event once again with our team – the ESP Motley Crew – hoping to celebrate our 20 years in print in style… Maybe even with a win after some close times last year!
So come and have a go if you think you’re fun enough and take us on in this brilliant family day out. Everyone is hoping to top last year’s record-breaking festival, which raised more than £35,000 for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.
Entries are now open and you don’t need any experience – come on, do we look like we know what we’re doing?!
The Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival has seen all sorts of teams take part from businesses to sports clubs, groups of mates and families celebrating special events through to charities and community organisations. If you’re celebrating a milestone why not put in a team to mark it and make it memorable?
The ESP crew love it and we always have a great time both on the water and enjoying laughs on the bankside in between races – it’s great for team building and a bit of a social… and we’re always up for a bit of a social!
Hannah Buckley, HR Generalist at IKEA, said: “We enjoyed taking part in last year’s event and working alongside the charity to fundraise for such a worthwhile cause. I am sure that this year’s event will surpass last year’s, and that is a credit to all those involved that put such hard work into ensuring this success. We look forward to seeing you all there.”
There is a great incentive for teams to raise as much sponsorship as possible – the top fundraisers will win the prize of a group experience day at Orton Hall Hotel and Spa to include Buck’s Fizz on arrival, morning use of Imagine Spa’s facilities, lunch and an afternoon with locally based CJ’s Birds of Prey.
To enter you’ll need up to 11 people in your team and each team will race a minimum of three times, the dragon boats and all equipment are provided.
