THORPE HALL CAPITAL APPEAL HITS £2 MILLION!

The Thorpe Hall Capital Appeal has smashed through a major milestone – topping the £2 million mark.

The actual amount of cash raised by the appeal now stands at £2,104,142.

News of this milestone comes on the day the Appeal patron Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester pays a private visit to Thorpe Hall Hospice in Longthorpe, Peterborough to see how the money raised so far has been spent.

For the last year, the fundraising team at Thorpe Hall has been working with businesses, individuals and community groups from across the region to raise the £6 million needed to fund the building of a new hospice at Thorpe Hall. Backing from high profile supporters such as Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony, cash injections from major Trusts and the help of organisations such as Queensgate Shopping Centre and Peterborough United, has helped boost the total.

The first raft of cash has already been spent on refurbishing the West Wing of Thorpe Hall to enable the day service offered by the hospice to be extended. The reception area for the new in-patient unit has been created and new family areas are available for use. The orchard wall, which will form the boundary of the new hospice has also been restored and the site has been prepared.

With fundraising momentum now gathering pace, it is hoped the final phase of the project, the building of the new 20 bed hospice to replace the current outdated Thorpe Hall, will start in September.

Philip Ball is the palliative care services manager at Thorpe Hall. He said: “We are delighted to have reached this important milestone in our appeal. There is lots of work going on to ensure we build on the success so far and keep the momentum going.

“It is testament both to the dedication of our team at Thorpe Hall but, most importantly, to the efforts of all those people across the region who have supported us that we have come so far.”

The new state-of-the-art hospice will be built adjacent to the current 17th century Thorpe Hall. The single storey building will boast 20 private, en suite rooms, all with individual garden access. There will also be a sanctuary and lounge areas for patients and their families.

“The new Thorpe Hall will be a blue print for hospices for generations to come,” said Philip. “No one is in any doubt about the standard of end of life care we offer at Thorpe Hall but our medical team has to work around our building. Our new building will work around us. And that new building is one big step closer with this totaliser news.”
