Following the success of Sporting Saturday 2015 the event, which attracted 1,000 people last year, is back for 2016 and will bring together some of the key providers of sport for disabled people, their families and carers in and around Peterborough.

It’s all happening at the Cresset on Saturday January 23 and is organised by Inspire Peterborough, inclusive sport project of local disability charity Disability Peterborough. Activities to try will include cricket and table cricket, soft archery, boxing, rowing and martial arts. The event opens to the public at 10am, with an energetic performance from Unity Allstars Gold cheerleaders, and closes at 4pm.

Sporting Saturday will be opened by the Mayor of Peterborough and will see performances from the Club 73 Choir and Extreme Clowning, among others. There’ll be an opportunity to register for the Inclusive Sport Peterborough programme, which has been funded by Sport England and the National Lottery. This programme of archery, cricket, table cricket, handcycling and swimming is also available as outreach, where partners Inspire Peterborough and Vivacity Disability Sport bring the activities to you and your group. More information can be found at

Alongside all of the action of the sport based activities, you can meet Mugly ‘the Ugliest Dog in the World’ (also a therapy dog), there’ll also be information stands for local and national charities and organisations who can offer support and guidance to people with disabilities, life limiting conditions and additional needs, their families and carers. There will also be a tombola, raffle and refreshments to buy.

Entrance to the event is FREE for everyone, with thanks to generous sponsorship from Cross Keys Homes. What better opportunity do you need to try something new and kick start the new year!
