There’s a fantastic series of events starting at Nene Park in Peterborough guaranteed to make the summer holidays in Peterborough the best yet.

From Saturday July 24, the Six Weeks of Summer activities kick off and there’s something for everyone with a Park Explorer challenge, guided walks, holiday trails and the ‘Big Summer Hunt’, to pond dipping and bug hunts, craft workshops and bushcraft sessions. Not to mention the fantastic daily watersports pay and play activities at Nene Outdoors and boat trips on Overton Lake!

ESP has been along to try out some of the acitivities and they’re fantastic fun! Read our feature in the latest Summer in the City special issue available at the Park’s café, Visitor Centre and new Farm Shop now.

There are summer-long activities such as trails and hunts – grab a trail sheet from the Visitor Centre or enjoy messing about on the water with the huge range of Pay & Play activities at Nene Outdoors. Daily watersports activities include swan pedalos and row boats, stand up paddle boards, kayaks and canoes, dinghies and windsurfing. You can also hire bikes at Nene Outdoors to explore the wider Park!

Take a trip around Overton Lake in their great new eco passenger boat and enjoy unique views of the lake and the wildlife around Ferry Meadows – we’ve tried it can certainly recommend it. Boat trips run regularly at weekends, and daily during the school holidays.

You can even enjoy your own local staycation and camp under the stars in one of their lovely new bell tents on the brand new ‘Lakeview Campsite’ and enjoy an easy camping experience on the peaceful banks of Gunwade Lake.

Try a new sporting challenge this summer with archery and climbing wall sessions! Held on alternate weeks throughout the summer holidays, the sessions run from 11am to 4pm and last for 45 minutes. Tickets cost £8 per person.

There’s also entertainment planned with Rah Rah Theatre and their Teddy Bear's Picnic Theatre Show on July 24. Take your favourite bear along to the Teddy Bear's Picnic Theatre Show at 11am or 2.30pm and enjoy an exciting show full of props, puppets, songs and dancing. Aimed at children aged 2-6, it’s £10 per ticket.

There’s Pond Dipping, Bug Hunts and Bushcraft skills as well as craft workshops to try too.

Or of course you could just make the most of the scenery and join one of the Social Walking Groups or head out on a guided Butterfly Walk.
