If you’ve been thinking about it, even training for it, but haven’t yet sorted your place in the Perkins Great Eastern Run 2015 you need to be quick to take advantage of the reduced entry fee.
The late entry charge of an additional £2 per person for both the half marathon and Anna’s Hope 5km fun run comes into force after Friday September 25.
It’s not lomg to go as this year’s Perkins Great Eastern Run is on Sunday October 11. Thousands of runners have already signed up to one of the UK’s fastest half marathons including ESP’s resident running man Darren Grigas.
Darren’s also signed the kids up to join the fun run and is encouraging other fmailies to partcipate together – “I used to race the fun run as a kid whilst my parents did the half but now I’ve got my own kids and am really pleased that they’re just as keen to get involved whilst I tackle the 13.1 miles touring the city. It’s a real family event and always great to see kids, parents and even grandparents all running together, if you haven’t already registered then I recommend just going for it, you can even raise a few quid for charity too!”
Entrants for both the half marathon and fun run aren’t just from the Peterborough region, with more and more runners from all over the UK and overseas taking part since the race returned to the city in 2006.
One of those lining up in the fun run will be Peterborough City Council Leader Councillor John Holdich.
Councillor Holdich said: “I think it’s fair to say my better running days are behind me but I really wanted to play a part in this year’s event in my first year as city council leader.
“The 5km course can be run, jogged or walked, so there is no pressure to go out of your comfort zone when taking part.”
Annette Joyce, service director for city services and communications at Peterborough City Council, who organise the race, said: “The numbers are looking really healthy for both the Anna’s Hope 5km Fun Run and the half marathon, and there is still time to enter for both but do take advantage of the reduced entry fee.
“The charity side to the Perkin’s Great Eastern Run is always extremely well supported with runners raising money for a variety of different causes.
“The Anna’s Hope 5km Fun Run is the perfect opportunity to get active, socialise with the many runners and have a great time while raising money for your chosen charity.”
There are two more free training sessions taking place on Wednesday September 23 and Wednesday October 7.
The sessions start at 7pm and take place at the Peterborough Embankment Athletics Track on Bishops Road.
The absolute deadline to enter the race is midnight Monday October 5 and no entries will be allowed after this date or on race day.
Entries can be made online at www.perkinsgreateasternrun.co.uk, by post or in person at the Visitor Information Centre in Bridge Street.
If your home address has changed since making your initial application, then remember to update your details by emailing perkinsgreateasternrun@peterborough.gov.uk before race packs are sent out at the end of September.
