MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS EXHIBITION LAUNCHES
The world premiere of a stunning new exhibition charting the life and legacy of Mary Queen of Scots has opened in Peterborough today.
We were excited to take a first look and – wow! From the moment you come face to face with an incredible statue of Mary illuminated through the windows of Peterborough Cathedral you can tell this new exhibition is going to be something special.
Fascinating artefacts – several of which were owned or actually used by Mary herself – are featured among the set pieces and models telling her story from birth to execution.
Voiceovers, visuals and incredible displays bring all the political intrigue, betrayal and tragedy to life as you make your way around the cathedral – an incredible setting, as ever, for a truly stunning creative display.
If you’ve found history difficult to engage with in the past this makes it accessible in a refreshing new way, made all the more interesting for us with her execution at nearby Fotheringhay castle and the fact she was originally laid to rest in the cathedral.
They’ve brought Mary’s story back to the city and it’s a gripping tale. This exhibition is impressive and marks a major step forward in the type of event the city can attract. It shines a light on our history but the future looks equally bright if we can see more like this in Peterborough.
Mary Queen of Scots: The Exhibition is now on show until November 15 and we definitely recommend you take a look.
