If you don’t want this many blokes around your girlfriend slow down…
The Safer Peterborough Partnership is reminding drivers of the legal and personal consequences of taking risks when out driving.
Research shows that young drivers, in particular young male drivers, are at a much higher risk of crashing than older drivers. They are therefore more at risk of losing their lives or being seriously injured on the road, often killing or injuring their young passengers or other road users. Road crashes are the biggest single killer of young people in the UK.
Over the past 3 years 55 people aged 17 – 25 were seriously injured on Peterborough Roads. Young drivers are at a much higher risk of crashing than older drivers. Nationally drivers aged 17 – 19 years make up 1.5% of the UK licence holders, but are involved in 12% of fatal and serious crashes.
Young drivers have the tendency to drive too quickly and to over-estimate their driving ability. They are also vulnerable to peer pressure.
Road traffic collisions can happen for various reasons so take a look at www.dft.gov.uk/think for more advice and info.
