There’s still time for people to sign up for a unique five kilometre run through the centre of Peterborough in aid of a worthy cause.

Over 190 people have pledged to take part in the Sunrise 5K which will see participants run or walk through the city from 5.30am on Friday June 8.

The race is being organised by Perfect Motion events and supported by Peterborough City Council.

Annette Joyce, Peterborough City Council’s Service Director for Environment and Economy, said: “This is the first time that a Sunrise 5K has been held in Peterborough and it promises to be a fantastic occasion.”

Councillor Steve Allen, Peterborough City Council’s Cabinet Holder for Recreation, said: “We’re delighted to see that so many people have already signed up and anyone who still wants to get involved can enter on the day.”

Starting in Cathedral Square, the race route takes participants down Bridge Street on to the footpaths next to the River Nene, on to the Embankment and Cathedral grounds before finishing back in Cathedral Square.

Proceeds raised are going to the charity ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ which helps children who have life-threatening illnesses.

Participants can enter on the day of the race at the Registration point in Cathedral Square.  It’s £20 cash only on the day.
