The first teams have signed up for the 15th Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival – what about you?
Following the launch of the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival, companies, clubs and organisations from Peterborough and the surrounding area are getting their teams together and signing up to take part in this hugely popular annual event. The 15thPeterborough Dragon Boat Festival takes placeon Saturday June 15 on the River Nene at the Embankment, Peterborough, and the inter-company rivalry is already building!
Taking part in the Festival for the second year in a row is PS Financials, who make the most of the day by arranging a private marquee, catering and bar with Festival organisers, Gable Events, for their team and up to 70 supporters. Crew manager and credit controller, Lynn Rutter, says: “It’s a great opportunity for all our staff from our divisions in London and Peterborough to come together whilst meeting other local companies, as well as benefiting a good cause, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.”
Established in 2001, employing 78 staff and based at Lynchwood, PS Financials provide financial systems to both the education and charity sectors, and their mixed team is also looking forward to the team building benefits of taking part. “The Festival was recommended to us last year which was why we entered the event. It was such a success and motivator to all of our staff that we decided to do it again this year.”
Another of the first teams to enter and largely new to the Festival is national construction company Barhale, who employ 220 staff at their Peterborough-based regional office in Maskew Avenue, as well as Park Inn Peterborough who have been competing in the Festival since 2009 and are returning this year to enjoy a family day out and raise local awareness of the hotel.
Owing to its successful introduction last year, teams will again be racing the smaller 11 person dragon boats and multiple crew discounts are available for those companies wishing to enter more than one team.
Exciting, colourful and great fun, no previous experience is required to enter a team of up to 11 people into the event, just plenty of team spirit and enthusiasm! The dragon boats, qualified helms and all racing equipment are provided and each crew is guaranteed a minimum of three races. The Festival promises a fantastic day for competitors and spectators alike with street entertainment, funfair, inflatable activities and plenty of food and drink for all the family on the bankside.
EACH is the children’s hospice service for families in Peterborough and the surrounding area. They provide care and support wherever the family wishes – in families’ own homes, in hospital or at one of their hospices in Milton, Ipswichand Quidenham.Beccy Turner, Corporate Fundraiser at EACH, comments: “The money raised through the generosity of the teams taking part in the Dragon Boat Festival is very important to us and will go towards the one-to-one nursing care and support that is so vital to life-threatened local children and their families.” The top fundraisers for EACH will win the charity trophy plus a prize meal at Nando’s Peterborough.
