There wasn’t a gap to be seen at the city’s packed lights switch on in Cathedral Square on Saturday November 18.
Organised by Peterborough City Council and hosted by Heart FM the event was a huge success attracting thousands.
It was all part of a big double lights switch-on event with Queensgate which ended with the shopping centre’s lights also going once the city centre was illuminated.
Entertainment on stage throughout the afternoon in Cathedral Square was hosted by Heart FM and included Peterborough Voices women’s choir, top local band Idolising Nova, singer Tom Korni, TickinBoxes covers band, the panto cast from Sleeping Beauty at the Key Theatre and even Miss Peterborough Laura Bailey joined in the fun.
Anticipation built as darkness fell and the clock ticked towards 5pm – then the countdown began, a burst of fireworks went up and the spectacular Christmas lights suddenly turned on illuminating Cathedral Square and the surrounding streets with a huge cheer from the crowd.
Then it was time for more festive fun as the crowds poured into Queensgate for the shopping centre’s big switch-on ending the day in style.
