PETERBOROUGH DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL IS CANCELLED

The organisers of the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival have cancelled the event due to be held in June owing to the on-going situation regarding the coronavirus.

ESP is the media partner for the event which raises money for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice and is regularly supported by Peterborough businesses and organisations who compete against each other on the Rowing Lake.

Gable Events have taken the decision to cancel the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday June 13 with the next event planned to take place in June 2021 on a date yet to be confirmed.

A spokesperson for Gable Events told ESP – “This is not a decision that has been taken lightly but with the current government lockdown to try and minimise the spread of coronavirus and the pressure on the NHS along with uncertainty about how long measures regarding social distancing, mass gatherings and self-isolation will be in place, this is felt to be the right and only decision possible with health and safety our paramount concern.”

It wasn’t deemed appropriate or practical to postpone the event until later in the year with the continuing uncertainty as to when the situation will change and there would be an expected shortfall of entries that would inevitably arise as the local business community focuses on recovery.

A spokesperson for Gable Events added – “We would like to thank everyone for their support and understanding and we will be working hard to ensure a successful event for all involved in 2021.”
