PETERBOROUGH CELEBRATES!

Peterborough Celebrates Festival returns to Ferry Meadows for its fifth year this weekend May 16 and 17 May.

This fabulous free-to-attend festival has a packed programme of performances, sights, sounds and activities to excite all visitors. Starting at 11am and running until 8pm, performance highlights include breathtaking acrobatics from Black Eagles, Storytelling from John Row and local author Ellie Sandall; dancing from male ballet dancer Kadeem, Latvian folk group and Bharat Hindu Samaj; local choir Peterborough Rock Choir; singers Ramaen and Mel Wilcox and Teddi the Drag Queen; local bands The Guards and The Xtremities and a high energy DJ set from DJ Eddie Nash.

On Sunday May 17, the festival begins at 10am with Rise and Shine Yoga on the 360 Stage followed by music and performances from local groups such as Lucy’s Pop Choir, singers Simon Lee, Ramaen, She Sings Jazz and Ruby Hounsell; an interactive Robin Hood family show and Peterborough Stories hosted by Del Singh and special guests.

At 4pm, following the success of the last two years, the festival finale will be marked with a traditional Hindu Holi Colour ceremony where the public will be invited to throw coloured paints and streamers in joyful celebration – a fitting end to a weekend of celebrating our city.

Alongside the wide range of performances on the main stage and the 360 stage, there'll be buskers by the bar and walkabout performances across the festival site.

Inspire Education are programming the big event tent throughout the weekend so pop in there to take part in workshops and activities. Their lottery funded project, Your Community Greenspace, is hosting a range of workshops and performances in the iconic Dome tent and the Peterborough Cultural Alliance is hosting some interactive story seats.

There is so much more to discover across the festival site throughout the weekend too. Take part in have-a-go sporting activities including climbing, rifle shooting, axe throwing, martial arts, Tai Chi and Yoga; have fun on the fairground rides; find out more about different Peterborough community groups and organisations; try a range of world food;  meet the Nene Park Trust team and admire all the ‘Pages in Peterborough’s Story’, created by schools and community groups across the city displayed in a giant story book installation
