NEW SIR HENRY ROYCE PUB OPENS IN CITY

There’s a new city centre pub set to open as the former Yates’s Bar premises reopen in a new guise…

After a number of recent venue closures on the night time scene in the city it’s fantastic to see a new one open and for those who’ve been calling for more traditional pubs in the city centre it’s more good news!

The new pub, Sir Henry Royce, will open on Friday March 20, after a £155,000 investment and has created seven new jobs as well as breathing fresh life into the city’s night scene. The pub on Broadway, takes over what was formerly Yates’s bar and is named after the Peterborough born English engineer and co-founder of the Rolls Royce Company.

The pub’s new drinks menu is packed with award-winning wines, premium lagers, delicious cocktails and a selection of ciders such as Westons Old Rosie and Scrumpy cloudy cider. Six cask ale pumps have been installed serving national ales alongside local beers GB Best and Ten Fifty from the Oakham based Grainstore brewery.

General Manager, Spencer Lloyd said – “We will be building our cask ale range and will be hosting regular ‘meet the brewer’ nights for those customers who love their cask ale. You never know we might even be serving ‘Sir Henry Royce’ beer before too long!”

There’ll be a brand new food offering, with the pub opening from 8am Monday to Saturday to serve a selection of breakfast options that include poached eggs and bacon, a breakfast wrap filled with sausage, bacon, a fried egg and a hash brown or Greek style yoghurt topped with fruit.

The menu encompasses pub favourites such as hand battered fish, chips and peas or a range of classic and new style burgers like the towering inferno burger, served with a bowl of chips, salad and relish. There are plenty of low calorie and vegetarian, such as Mexican-style stuffed pasta boats (475 cal) or hot mushroom and mozzarella salad (285 cal) both under 500 calories. For those in a group the BBQ combo planks allow guests to share five dishes of delicious pub classics: BBQ pork ribs, Cumberland sausages, chicken wings, southern fried style chicken and pulled pork topped fries.

Sir Henry Royce will offer the best live sporting viewing facilities in town, with BT Sport and Sky Sports available across its thirteen large screens. The pub also has a packed schedule of entertainment throughout the week including a quiz every Sunday night. “We will be launching poker nights on Mondays and weekly open mic nights on Wednesdays. We love nothing more than supporting our local community, so are pleased to announce that we have selected Peterborough based Thorpe Hall Hospice as our charity for 2015. We have lots of events planned at the pub to help raise funds for this brilliant cause and will be announcing them over the coming weeks,” said Spencer.

Spencer Lloyd and the team are inviting local businesses and residents to a champagne reception from 5pm to 7pm on Friday March 20. Guests will be invited to try tasters from the new menu whilst enjoying tunes from  popular local band New Generation Crash & Burn.

The venue will be open from 8am, Monday to Saturday and 10am on Sunday. It will close at 11pm Sunday to Tuesday and Thursday, and 2am on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
