The first of two amazing weekends of arts and entertainment kick off this Saturday as the annual Peterborough Festival brings us something new.
This year the fun is moving out of the city centre with a weekend of fun at Thorpe Meadows with #ParkTales: Myths and Minibeasts on August 20-21 followed by Key Feste on September 3-4 at the Key Theatre and Embankment.
It’s twice the fun as both weekends will be packed full of activities for families based around various art forms including music, dance, drama, storytelling and sculpture.
First up it’s #ParkTales: Myths and Minibeasts when Thorpe Meadows will be transformed into a mythical kingdom on August 20 – 21 as Vivacity invites families to a magnificently magical weekend.
There’ll be storytellers, sculptures, music and lots of ‘Faerie and Beasty’ shenanigans including the Magic Dust Disco, Mini Beast Quests and den building, plus plenty of other interactive workshops to keep both children and grown-ups alike entertained.
Marvellous Menagerie will take you on an adventure through sizzling safaris and snowy Siberia – this epic story of world travel and rare beasts will be told through drama, music and song!
Then, set off on a mythical journey that will take you from the depths of the sea to the ancient past with the Tale Trail. Listen carefully for clues from four storytellers along the way to reveal a secret message. Throughout the day, there will also be fairy and elf workshops, transforming children into magical creatures, colouring and minibeast making stations and den building.
There is also the return of festival favourites Plunge Boom whose two intriguing scientists will wow audiences with a horde of micro-creatures in jars – a cross between Indiana Jones and David Bellamy, these animal lovers are on a mission of miniature proportions.
Sheena Carman, Vivacity Arts Development officer said “The whole thing is going to be pinned together by storytellers.
“They will weave stories around the sculptures, about the folklore of the area and all the natural mini beasts that you can find there.”
The weekend events are free to attend and brimming with good stuff so see you there!
