While ESP’s Man About Town, Pep Cipriano is on lockdown at home that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have plenty of news to chat about. Here’s Part 2 of his latest ESP column…
DRAPERS BEER FESTIVAL TESTERS
So, before we were all rightly told to stay at home, the ESP crew (minus me with man cold) were invited to check out the new-look Draper’s Arms and ended up sampling some of the liquid delights on offer during their beer festival.
“We’ve now got 12 real ales and seven of them are permanent, so it means you can enjoy your favourite pint with us again and again. The pub has just turned 15 years-old and the buzz about the place is like when we first opened. It’s great and I’d like to thank everyone for their continued support.”
SAY IT WITH YOUR OWN FLOWERS?
Self-isolating is a phrase we’ll never forget but have you ever self-partnered? No, I know what you’re thinking, not that kind – that’s normal.
What isn’t normal is sending flowers to yourself, but according to Interflora a rising number of singletons have had flowers delivered to themselves from the company’s ‘Self-partnered’ collection.
Seriously, first loo roll madness and now this. What’s the world coming to?

Interflora say the Self-partnered range is designed to empower and it’s for single people who want to congratulate themselves on getting a promotion, beating their best 10k time, or to send themselves a beautiful gift ‘just because’. Think I’m going to be sick.
And to make sure you send yourself the perfect bunch that doesn’t leave you disappointed, you just answer a few questions on the website about your likes and loves. Then a bouquet to suit you is recommended.
I’m trying to picture someone’s reaction to the flowers being delivered but I can’t – I won’t – I’m normal and the world in 2020 is actually bonkers.
WEMBLEY DELIGHT FOR NAOMI AND HANNAH
I love how the girls wore dresses to match the colours of Aston Villa and Manchester City and how both sets of fans sang loudly along with them.
“We love singing the national anthem for sporting matches,” the girls told me. “The atmosphere was so magical, the crowd sung along very enthusiastically, which was lovely. We are really excited to hopefully go back again soon.”
Now unfortunately stuck at home like the rest of us the twins have been entertaining everyone by taking requests and posting songs on their Facebook page @classicaltwins #classicalcovers.
Naomi and Hannah are also releasing their next album later this year and I’m told it features some famous contributors.
Pure class as always girls.
I THOUGHT IT WAS PIE!
April 16 is Pyjamas for PanCan day.
Long story short… a colleague sent me some information. I skim-read it and said to count me in since pecan pie is one of my favourites.
I assumed all I had to do is wear my pyjamas for a day and get some free pecan pie (hopefully with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream).
Turns out PanCan is an awareness day to raise funds for pancreatic cancer.
Oh. Well, whether we’re still on lockdown or not, it’s the best suggested £2 donation I’ll spend this month and I actually feel pretty good about donning my PJs for a day to support this worthy cause.
If you want to join in visit https://pancreaticcanceraction.org/
In the meantime, when we’re allowed out again, where can I get a homemade pecan pie (warm) with vanilla ice-cream please?
BACK IN THE DAY IS ONLINE
It was basically a throwback piece on the different venues, personalities and events ESP reported on in the early days.
Lots of you really enjoyed reading it (the most feedback I’ve had in 21 years of writing this column), so we thought it was time it made a return, but this time on our social media channels.
Here’s a photo to get things going and from now on we’ll be publishing a photo each month on our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter #ESP BackInTheDay.
We want you to add your comments, memories and any photos you may have relating to the one we post, starting with this one.
All I remember from this one is… if only our lovely Face of ESP Becca Evans was a little older…Yum.
MY WORD OF THE MONTH: EASTER
I usually have fun with this segment of my column, but this time I’m asking you all not to lose your minds and clear out shelves of Easter eggs from the supermarket in a panic-buying frenzy. Thank you.
Jack – what’s your next move?
Beer Squad – shall we have a virtual lockdown one?
Lenny – keep me in mind when it’s all over
Dave and Romeo – thanks, I’ve got the horn!
Ray – are you ready for me post Corona?
Wayne – any response?
