LAST CALL FOR PEOPLE TO ‘WALK TO REMEMBER’ FOR THORPE HALL HOSPICE

We all need our exercise and charities need our support so why not combine the two and raise some cash for Peterborough’s Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice this month?

They’re holding a special Walk to Remember throughout October – but rather than a big group event we’ve all been asked to step out on our own routes in honour of our loved ones – and there’s still time to take part before the month ends.

It’s a chance to celebrate the memory of someone special with a Walk to Remember. Just choose your distance, start and finish line, and a route that means something to you.

The charity walk idea has been organised by Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, which provides expert palliative care for people with life-limiting conditions as well as supporting their families.

Jo Oxenham from Peterborough’s already done her own 10k Walk to Remember in tribute to her mum Carol, who was cared for at the hospice in September 2016.

Jo, who works in administration for an insurance brokers, said: “Sue Ryder provided amazing support for my mum when she needed it and gave her the chance to spend her last few days in a peaceful environment.

“I loved being able to take part in the Walk to Remember for my mum – she loved walking and being outside. It was nice to be able to take part in something that reminds me of her in a place that was special to her – she would be so proud and happy.”

Victoria Potter, Community Fundraiser at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, said: “A huge thank you to Jo and everyone who is making strides in our Walk to Remember this month.

“It’s not too late to join them and celebrate the life of a loved one; you just choose a 5k or a 10k distance and a route that means something to you. You can walk any day throughout October.

“Entry is free, but it’s your donations and fundraising that will make all the difference to patients and families needing our expert care. Sign up today at: www.sueryder.org/walktoremember
