L’ARISTO’S REVIVAL AT THE TAP

It was arguably the best nightclub our city has ever seen and ESP’s Man About Town, Pep Cipriano, says those who were lucky enough to frequent L’Aristo’s back in the day will be eager for this event…

The L’Aristo’s Revival at the Brewery Tap in Peterborough will most definitely bring back memories of what it was like to go to a proper nightclub. It was a venue designed around a huge dancefloor and it oozed sophistication. It was the first time I can remember a night spot having private booths and insisting on a collar and trousers door policy.

The club was stuck out in Fengate (a contribution to its eventual downfall) and owner Frank laid on shuttle buses to take us there from town.

Sunday nights were packed. We’d start off at The Granary and practically the entire crowd would then migrate to Fengate.

L’Aristo’s made you feel special and it was the last of the traditional super clubs before the likes of Liquid came to play along with other venues like The Bar and Toho that were merely trendy bars with no dedicated dance space.

Certain songs always remind me of clubs back in the day and with L’Aristo’s it’s Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You. It must have been played every Sunday while it was at number one and in a way the lyrics are so fitting to a club that I will always love.

The Reunion is at The Brewery Tap on Westgate in Peterborough on Saturday February 16.

On the decks are Eddie Nash, Otis Roberts and Steve Walsh. It’s a fiver to get in and all proceeds go to Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.
