The 20th Dragon Boat Festival in Peterborough is set to be the best in years with 48 teams signed up for a packed day of racing, so make sure you head along and cheer them on!
ESP is proud to be the print media partner for this great event on Saturday June 9 at the Rowing Lake and our very own ESP Motley Crew will be up against a range of teams gunning for glory.
This fun family day out is raising money for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice and will see dramatic races in ornate dragon boats cutting through the water to the beat of a drum.
It’s exciting to watch with races every few minutes but there is also plenty happening on the bankside to keep the whole family amused with stalls and entertainment.
Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice fundraiser Nilesh Patel said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support shown for this year’s Dragon Boat Festival –what a fantastic way to celebrate the 20th anniversary.
“A number of teams have already thrown themselves into fundraising and we’re delighted to see the total raised for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice as the charity partner pushing upwards.
“We’re hoping that with the help of all the crews, their supporters and spectators we can raise £20,000 through the Festival. That money will help pay for hospice care at Thorpe Hall and out in the community too.”
Several new teams will be taking part this year including a team from Burghley House, XL Displays and Wansford Surgery along with returning teams from Serpentine Green, Rawlinsons and Buckles Solicitors who said – “We’ve taken part in the Dragon Boat Festival for the last few years and cannot say enough good things about it. Even if the weather is dull, spirits never are, and the atmosphere is fantastic.”
It’s all organised by Gable Events and the Connect FM radio team will be compering the event which is sponsored by Motorpoint.
