It’s time to lean on the biggest bar in the city and order a pint or two as the 39th Peterborough Beer Festival is now open on the Embankment.
With an amazing array of real ales, ciders, wines and perries for us to sup as well as a great line up of live music, this event is certainly one of our favourites.
It’s running from Tuesday August 23 to Saturday August 27 and looks set to be another good one. There’s always a great atmosphere and we guarantee you’ll meet people you haven’t seen for ages, possibly since the last beer festival!
Held in three huge marquees, the Peterborough Beer Festival proudly displays one of the largest selections of real ale anywhere in the country, but it’s not just about beer!
Last year over 420 different cask beers were on sale from over 170 brewers but there’s also a huge range of foreign bottled beers, and UK produced wine, cider and perries. There’s plenty of different food on offer, a fairground, carnival games and live music.
If you’re yet to attend any of the previous festivals, you may be surprised to hear that this is something for all the family. You can take the pet dog along and even take a picnic with your own food and soft drinks.
Mike Lane, chairman of the CAMRA organising committee told ESP they’ve made a few changes – “For starters, we’ve extending the north tent by 2 extra bays. This will be filled with a whole load of seating. A few people in the past have said how they’d like more places to sit and we’ve taken on board those comments. As the weather’s nice, we’ll even have extra seating outside.”
Mike continued, “Another thing different about this year is that bar 4 will provide you with beverages that have been brewed within 30 miles of Peterborough. We’ve always featured local beers in the past, but they’ve been scattered around alphabetically. This time you’ll find them in one place.”
And he says the range of ales is as impressive as ever – “There’s a huge range of strengths but also flavours. You may get a hint of chocolate in one, or even banana in another. Regardless of whether you want to play it safe with something you know and love or want to try something new and adventurous, you’re in safe hands with us.”
A fresh addition to the line up this year is the Key Keg Bar, the newest thing in brewing. Cellarman Steve Saldana will be manning the bar and told ESP – “This is the new way of serving traditional beer and produces big, bold, beers and flavours. It’s chilled and doesn’t necessarily have to be fizzy – it’s beer served exactly as the brewer wants it to be. There’ll be 45 to try and when they’re gone they’re gone. I’ll be happy to answer anyone’s questions about the process so head over and see me!”
So we’ll see you there! Look out for our ESP Paparazzi phootgrapher and give us a smile and keep an eye on our social media.
