GET THE FESTIVE FEELING @ LIGHTS OF LOVE CAROL SERVICE

There’ll be the chance to celebrate and remember at this weekend’s annual Lights of Love carol concert, taking place at Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough.

Thousands of people are expected to join in the open air concert featuring bands, choirs and musicians from across the region.

The centre piece of the celebration, which marks the beginning of the festive season at the Sue Ryder hospice, will be the Lights of Love tree, donated by Tallington Christmas Tree Farm. Taking pride of place in the Great Hall, the tree’s branches already carry a number of baubles inscribed with messages of remembrance, love and celebration. Hundreds more are expected to be added during the concert, which takes places from 4.30pm on Sunday December 14.

Staff have received confirmation this week that Santa will be taking time out of his very busy schedule to visit Thorpe Hall during the event, meeting local children to find out what they’d like to find in their stocking on Christmas Day.

Thorpe Hall’s books of remembrance will be available to view, there’ll be refreshments and fundraising activities too.

Hospice fundraiser Kirsty Clipston said: “The Lights of Love event is a favourite with so many people. We like to think of it as the perfect opportunity to take time out of the hustle and bustle to remember and celebrate the lives of special people with family and friends.

“Once again we’ve got some brilliant musicians to lead the singing – the City of Peterborough Concert Band, Peterborough Voices and bagpipe player Kathryn Johnston. But of course it’s our guests who really bring everyone’s favourite carols alive.”

The concert will take place in the gardens at Thorpe Hall Hospice, on Thorpe Road, Longthorpe, Peterborough with the mansion house as the backdrop.

Money raised at the Lights of Love concert will go towards the £6 million appeal to fund the building of a new, state-of-the-art in patient unit.

Lights of Love is free to attend. Choir sheets cost £1. Doors open at 4.30pm with the firework finale scheduled for 7pm.
