CRAFTY CHRISTMAS FAIR @ THE GREEN BACKYARD

December is here, the shops are getting busy and Facebook is now full of Christmas trees, advent calendars and pretty dress selfies, yes readers… it’s Christmas time!

There are lots of lovely events for you to enjoy locally over the festive season and one that’s really caught my eye is The Green Backyard Christmas Fair on Sunday December 6. They have a magical way of bringing people back to nature and to the core of what really matters and it makes the perfect location to enjoy a quaint and traditional approach to Christmas and away from all the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping too!

I caught up with Rich Hill, chair to the board of trustees at The Green Backyard, who told me: “The Green Backyard Christmas Fair gives us the opportunity to bring people together at this special time of year, celebrate the year’s achievements, and to offer the chance to purchase a gift from local crafts people.

“This year’s successes include delivering a fantastic programme of hands-on craft courses to the community, providing year round volunteer and learning opportunities, being recognised for our contribution to helping Peterborough achieve the UK’s best Harvest Festival, and winning a public vote to secure a £12,000 investment in solar energy for the charity.

“It’s also a good time to say thank you to all our dedicated supporters and volunteers who help us achieve many good things.”

A real roaring fire will set the scene for this magical event alongside some delicious home made food, market stalls, mulled wine, hot chocolate, a music jamming session (bring your instrument along and get involved), carols, cakes and you can meet Santa too, the green version – well it is an eco site! To add some extra fun to the day, fancy dress is encouraged in the style of your finest Christmas costumes and you might even win a prize in the Christmas Costume Parade.

I’m convinced it will be a lovely event, bringing us back to what really matters this time of year – relationships, eating well and showing gratitude for what we have.

So head to the site on Oundle Road this December and enjoy some real Christmas cheerfulness.
