AUTHOR TO LAUNCH NEW BOOK ON KATHERINE OF ARAGON @ CATHEDRAL

If you’re a history fan and like a local angle a new novel about Katherine of Aragon is being launched in the city with a talk by the author…

Best-selling historian and author Alison Weir is to launch her new novel ‘Katherine of Aragon: The True Queen’ at Peterborough Cathedral on Friday May 6 at 7.30pm, with an illustrated talk and book signing.

The writer will give her presentation in the Nave of the Cathedral, a short distance from where Katherine of Aragon was buried in 1536, on the instructions of King Henry VIII.

The novel is the first in a series of six, one about each of King Henry VIII’s wives. It draws on new research and keeps closely to the historical record, but tells the story from Katherine’s own personal viewpoint.

Alison will bring to life the splendour and brutality of the Tudor court where Katherine lived amongst figures such as Thomas Cromwell, Cardinal Wolsey and Thomas More. Having travelled for weeks over treacherous seas to come to England at the age of 16 and marry Prince Arthur, Katherine eventually wed his younger brother Henry. Their long marriage was overwhelmed by dynastic pressures and she died in exile at Kimbolton Castle.
