Get involved, make friends, enjoy the fresh air and exercise. All this and Steam Trains… What more could you want?
The Nene Valley Railway is looking for volunteers to help to improve the railway infrastructure.
If trains are your big thing, the civil engineering department has organised a volunteer taster day to be held at Wansford Station on Saturday November 23 from 11am.
They’ll tell you what they’re about: Trackwork, signalling, bridges, stations and buildings and explain how you might become involved.
It doesn’t matter if you know very little about railways, they can teach you!
Afterwards, all attending will be treated to a free train ride in the Civil Engineering Dept’s TASC Machine (see photo) to Yarwell, through Wansford Tunnel.
This will give potential volunteers a flavour of the railway and some idea of the satisfaction that they get from something worthwhile achieved at the end of the day.
To reserve your place just give them a call on 01780 784444 or email nvr@nvr.org.uk
If you fancy being a part of this but can’t make it on Saturday November 23, please give them a call and they can arrange for you to meet their volunteer civil engineers on another occasion.
