Shoppers at Peterborough City Market have the chance to win a bumper Christmas hamper delivered in person by the city’s First Citizen!

The hamper will be made up of produce and goods that are sold on the city market and shoppers can enter the prize draw as many times as they like until the closing date on Thursday December 19.

The winning entry will be drawn by the Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor June Stokes, on Friday December 20 and the hamper will then be delivered by the Mayor to the home of the winner.

The festive season gets underway at the city market when the Christmas lights are unveiled and hamper prize draw is launched on Friday November 22 at 3.30pm.

Steve Woolley, Market Manager at Peterborough City Council, told ESP – “Traders have already been talking to their customers about the Christmas hamper prize draw and I expect entries to come in thick and fast. The contents of the hamper make for a great addition to festive feasts and unique stocking fillers.

“The atmosphere at the market is always special during this time of year. That festive feeling really does begin to take off once the Christmas lights and tree are displayed.”

The city market is the ideal shopping destination for all your festive needs. From Christmas cards, decorations and stocking filler gifts to seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables and, of course, the all important turkey.

Shoppers can also take advantage of one-hour parking in the Northminster multi-storey car park, which has been reduced from £1.20 to just 50p.

The city market will be opening for three additional days during the run-up to Christmas. The days are: Monday December 16 from 8.30am until 4pm, Sunday December 22 from 10am until 4pm and Monday December 23 from 8.30am until 4pm.

It will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and on Sunday December 29 and Monday December 30 but will re-open on Tuesday December 31 from 8.30am to 4pm. The city market will be closed on New Year’s Day.
