From cycle powered cinema to a Party in the Park, August’s Travelchoice Festival is packed with a range of free events designed to promote sustainable travel in the city!
A free BMX show of stunts and demos kicks things off on Saturday August 2 in Cathedral Square whilst giving you all the info you need to travel sustainably around the city.
Meanwhile over in Central Park on the same day there’s a free family fun event showcasing sustainable transport with BBQ, assorted bike rides, pedal your own fresh organic smoothies and Rollapaluza cycle battles. As part of this event there’ll be a free Cycle Cinema on site giving families the chance to watch the popular film Frozen – all being shown through pedal-powering the screen.
The cinema theme continues on Friday August 8 with a free Drive-In Car Share Cinema showing Grease at Peterborough Garden Park in Eye. Add to the ambiance by dressing as Pink Ladies or T-birds while munching on the popcorn.
On Friday August 15 there’s a free Travelchoice Ghost Walk starting at Peterborough Museum taking in the places which seem so innocent during the day!
Over at Ferry Meadows you can join in with the Parkrun on Saturday August 16. Parkrun has been taking place every Saturday for the past year, so if you haven’t tried it yet why not give it a go?
Visit Queensgate on public transport Tuesday August 19 and you can take part in a ‘Deal or no Deal’ competition choosing from a series of sealed boxes where you can win prizes.
The Cycle Cinema is back in Hampton on Monday August 25 when you can watch the Lego Movie and learn about sustainable travel around the city.
Continuing the cycle theme there are a couple of Guided Cycle Rides taking place, one on Tuesday August 26 at Ferry Meadows at 2pm with a light refreshments stop at the new Lakeside Café. The second is at 6.30pm on Friday August 29 – get on your bike and join Sustrans at Bretton Gate and take a guided cycle ride out of the city to Willow Brook Farm for a lovely early evening BBQ.
The big finale event is on Saturday August 30 with the Travelchoice Party in the Park at Ferry Meadows. This will feature local bands playing throughout the day on a pedal powered music stage! Head along to this free event and help keep the music ‘pumping’. There will also be a BBQ, assorted bikes, sports day, smoothie bikes to pedal your own fresh organic smoothies and a funfair.
