TIME’S NEARLY UP TO ENTER THE DRAGON!

There’s not long left to join us on the water enter a team into the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday June 10!

Peterborough Rowing Club will soon be reverberating to the sound of beating drums and there’s still time to get your team together and join in the fun.

The Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival celebrates its 19th anniversary on Saturday June 10 and around half the teams that enter each year are new – so why not join them on the start line?

Over 30 teams from Peterborough and surrounding areas including ESP Magazine have already signed up and are eagerly anticipating a day of fun on the water in aid of Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.

The dragon boats, qualified helms and all racing equipment are provided and each crew is guaranteed a minimum of three races. No previous experience is required to take part, just plenty of team spirit and enthusiasm. Medals and trophies are up for grabs for the top three crews, top mixed crew, ‘best dressed’ crew and charity champions.

The top fundraising crew for Thorpe Hall Hospice will also receive a special prize – a private raceview suite for up to 40 guests with a delicious finger buffet and sponsored race worth £600 courtesy of Peterborough Greyhound Stadium– a great incentive!

Serpentine Green, Amaray, Coloplast and Rapidrop Global have all opted for the enhanced Gold and Silver entries whilst the standard entrants so far include AB Agri, ABAX UK, Ballast Phoenix, Barhale, Bonacia(two crews), Buckles Solicitors, Environmental GB, ESP Magazine, Froglife, Hunt & Coombs Solicitors, Ideal Shopping Direct, KDH Projects, Marshfields School, Materoast Coffee Co, Midco Care, NetSupport, Partner Logistics, Peterborough Greyhounds, Peterborough Regional & City Colleges, Prestons Health, PS Financials (two crews), Rawlinsons, Stanair Industrial Doors and Webroster alongside the crew representing Festival charity, Thorpe Hall Hospice.

It’s a really great day out and the ESP team can’t wait to take part! As well as the dragon boat racing, teams and supporters will be able to enjoy a variety of bankside entertainment including a funfair, inflatables, face painting, food stalls and a bar.

All eyes will turn skywards at approx. 1.40pm when an RAF Dakota is scheduled to fly over the lake (weather and operational restrictions permitting). One of the most successful aircraft designs in history, the Dakota became famous for military transport and saw widespread use by the allies during WWII.

You’ll be able to find out more about Festival charity, Thorpe Hall Hospice and the fantastic work they do to provide end of life care across the region. The money raised at the 2017 Dragon Boat Festival will mean they can continue to give families more time, memories and the care they need at the most difficult time.

Connect FM and our ESP Magazine are this year’s Festival media partners and will be on site with promotions and giveaways.

Nilesh Patel, Thorpe Hall fundraiser comments, “Our Thorpe Dragons team can’t wait to take to the water and meet the teams who have been so generous in pledging their support. We look forward to seeing you all there!”
