STAMFORD GEORGIAN FESTIVAL IS HERE!

The big weekend is here! It’s the first ever Stamford Georgian Festival and we can’t wait to check it out!

The festival will transport the best place to live in Britain back to the Georgian era complete with horse drawn carriages, period costume cricket and erm… bull runs.

Horrible Histories will be performing a specially written ‘Gorgeous Georgians’ stage show at the Stamford Corn Exchange, Street Entertainers including stilt walkers, jugglers and Morris dancers will be wowing the crowds across the town and there’ll be a recreation of the Bull Run at the Stamford Arts Centre!

International carnival specialists ‘Shademakers‘ will be working in conjunction with New College Stamford to recreate one of the town’s goriest traditions which was (rightfully) abandoned in 1839 thanks to a campaign by the RSPCA.

There’s a street fayre and craft market all day Saturday from 10am – 4.30pm, childrens activities, workshops and storytelling, loads of street entertainers and the Bull Run will set off from Stamford Arts Centre at 3.30pm. There’s more to come on Sunday too with plenty happening across the town all weekend.

David Nalson, the Chairman of South Kesteven District Council (the festival organisers) told ESP why you should be excited – “Stamford has the perfect backdrop for a festival such as this one. The town’s Georgian heritage and architecture contributed greatly to it being crowned the best town in the UK and this festival will surely provide further evidence for that case.”
