Looking for some bank holiday family fun – head to Sacrewell’s spring fair!
Spring is a fantastic time at Sacrewell and they’ll be showcasing all they have to offer at the spring fair on May 3 and 4.
Sacrewell is part of the William Scott Abbott Trust, founded in 1964 to teach people about food and farming. So, twice a year they stage a celebration of country traditions and take a trip back in time to the swinging 60s.
Over the early May bank holiday they’ll have entertainment from Peterborough Morris; you’ll be able to have a go at May pole dancing and try your luck on the bucking sheep.
There’ll be tug of war and horseshoe throwing competitions.
Refreshments will be provided by Origin8 @ Sacrewell which will be serving up a tasty barbecue and The Grainstore Brewery from Oakham will be keeping glasses topped up at the bar with their real ales and ciders.
Marketing and events executive Megan Allen said: “We’ve even got a 1940s style ice cream parlour coming along to serve up delicious ices.
“All of our fun and games will be complemented by a 1960s soundtrack.”
Sacrewell’s 18th Century grade II* listed watermill is due to reopen later in the summer and the centre will become a centre for milling excellence, helping to preserve the ancient skill and inspiring a new generation of millers and bakers.
Mrs Allen said: “Although the mill project won’t quite be finished, it’ll be a chance for people to see the changes to the exterior that are already very apparent and hopefully encourage them to come back and see it when it reopens in the summer.”
Sacrewell spring fair will take place from 10am to 4pm each day. Normal farm admission applies for entry. Under twos can visit for free.
