FESTIVE EVENTS AT PETERBOROUGH CATHEDRAL

A traditional Christmas Market, a magical visit to Father Christmas in the historic Library, and the much-loved Christmas Tree Festival headline a packed festive programme.
Peterborough cathedral will be opening up its rarely seen library room this Christmas for a first – a chance to meet Father Christmas.
It’s the main event in a special season of special events. From the night Peterborough's Christmas lights are switched on to the first week of the New Year, the Cathedral will be at the heart of Christmas in Peterborough. Starting on Friday 20 November, a packed season of festive events fills the building with artisan makers, music, trees and traditions, something for every age to enjoy.

It begins with the popular Christmas Craft & Gift Markets on 20-22 November when it will be packed with hundreds of stalls with makers and creators and delicious festive food.
The big new festive attraction this year though will see Father Christmas in the Library for the first time from 21 November - 24 December (selected dates).
Families are invited to follow an atmospheric route to the Cathedral Library, climb a steep spiral staircase and then knock on the great Library door, behind which... Father Christmas will be waiting to welcome you.

Inside, the historic Library will be transformed with twinkling lights, lanterns, traditional decorations, Christmas trees and beautifully wrapped presents. Father Christmas will spend time with each family, chatting with the children, hearing their Christmas wishes, and sharing a special story amongst the books. Every child will leave with a gift.
An accessible option is available for families unable to use the spiral staircase, taking place in the Cathedral's New Building on selected dates. It can be booked separately on the Cathedral's website.

Then, back by popular demand after its debut first year, the Cathedral's Christmas Tree Festival returns 27 November - 6 January, bigger and better and filling the building with beautifully decorated Christmas trees created by local businesses, charities, community groups, schools and organisations.
Every tree will display a Christmas message to the people of Peterborough, along with information about its creators' work in the community. Entry is by suggested donation of £5 on the door, supporting the Cathedral and its charitable work.
Jack Pishhorn, COO at Peterborough Cathedral said:
“Christmas at Peterborough Cathedral is about opening our doors as wide as we can. For nearly nine hundred years this building has been at the heart of the city's life.
"This season we want everyone to feel it belongs to them, whether they're picking out a handmade gift at the market, watching a child knock on the Library door to meet Father Christmas, or walking among trees decorated by the charities and community groups who do so much for Peterborough.
"Every visit also helps us care for this extraordinary building and carry on our work in the community. We can't wait to welcome you.”
These three events are just some of the highlights of a full festive programme at Peterborough Cathedral. The full line-up is available on the Cathedral's events page:
