There is a unique opportunity this Bank Holiday weekend to experience the sights and sounds of Peterborough Cathedral in a vivid and dramatic way. On both Saturday (24th May) and Monday (26th May) guided Tower Tours to the upper levels of the building are running at 11.00am and 1.45pm.
Not only can visitors take a closer look at the beautiful ceilings and stained glass windows but also take in the spectacular view from the top of the tower. Then on Monday (26th May) at 11.30am, 1.00pm and 3.00pm, the Cathedral will resound to the stirring noises of Soundscape, a sonic history of Peterborough Cathedral.
Soundscape is the brainchild of Peterborough based artist, Andy Lowings, who has created the 45 minute audio piece using recorded sounds and live musicians. Expect to hear construction workers chipping away at stone, Katharine of Aragons lament, World War II bombing raids and much more. Tickets for Soundscape are £5, available from Andy on 01733 253068 or on the door.
A regular Cathedral guided tour, for those who prefer to stay at ground level, will also be available on Saturday at 2.00pm. Tickets at £7 (£5) and may be booked at the Welcome Desk on arrival.

The Cathedral will be open to visitors throughout the weekend, from 9.00am – 3.00pm on Saturday, 12 noon – 3.00pm on Sunday and 9.00am – 5.00pm on Monday. There is no entry fee for individual visitors, who are invited to make a donation. Visitors are welcome to stay for the service of Evensong at 3.30pm on Saturday and Sunday, which will be sung by the Peterborough Chamber Choir. An exhibition of work by the Guild of Fine Artists will be on display at the east end of the Cathedral.
