We all need a good time come January so forget the dark nights, dodgy weather and back to work blues and follow the bear round the pubs in Whittlesey!
The annual Straw Bear Festival is always a good knees up and the atmosphere around the town is just great as the pubs are packed and the streets lined with entertainment.
On Saturday January 11 the main event starts with a procession from the Manor Leisure Centre at 10.30am to the library via the Market Place.
This is followed by a full day of processions and dancing around the town and finishes with a finale back on the Market Place at 3pm.
The pubs will be rammed to the rafters and there’ll be a great party atmosphere this weekend, so a top tip is to get there early and wrap up warm! There’s a park and ride service which is worth taking up too.
There’ll be music and entertainment throughout the weekend but the gigs sell out fast so check for availability on 01733 204055 or email boxoffice@strawbear.org.uk.
The ‘Bear’ is burned at Sir Harry Smith Community College between 12.30 and 2pm on Sunday January 12… no real bears or humans are hurt during this process but lots of beer may be drunk!
Check out their new official website www.strawbear.org.uk for all you need to know.
