A return to the airwaves for Radio Peterborough on 106.2 FM…
Radio Peterborough 106.2 is planning to re commence FM broadcasting on Sunday November 3 (DATE TBC) from its studios at the Herlington Centre, Peterborough. The station will again broadcast 24 hours a day for one month. This will be the fourth Restricted Service Licence awarded to Radio Peterborough 106.2 – the three previous broadcasts were in June and November 2010 and lastly in June 2012.
The station is run and operated by local volunteers with former managing director of Lite FM Wayne Fitzgerald assisting with project management. The eventual aim of the station is to re-establish a local radio station actually based in Peterborough and broadcasting from the city. With support from both of the city’s MP’s and local community leaders the station continues to lobby the Minister for Culture, Media and Sport and others to press the case for another radio license to be made available for Peterborough.
Radio Peterborough 106.2 is a ‘not for profit’ enterprise and everyone who works for the station does so on a voluntary basis. Many of the city’s most respected and best known local radio broadcasters such as Dave King, Rob Jones, Keith Dalton (ESP Magazine’s live music reporter) and Stewart Francis are giving up their time to make a return to the airwaves to support the project. In addition, many new voices, trained by the station, will also be heard presenting a whole range of programmes during the evenings and at weekends.
Radio Peterborough is always looking for volunteers of all ages to work both on air and behind the scenes – everyone is welcome to participate in this truly local community project so just get in touch if you’d like to play a part.
Radio Peterborough’s local news broadcast on the hour is supplied by The Peterborough Telegraph Newspaper and its own volunteers ensuring all listeners will be kept well and truly up to date with everything local. National and International news will be provided by Independent Radio News. The station’s music policy will be based on the best songs of today and yesterday – making it a vibrant feel good sound.
Whilst it is not for profit this community station is supported by a number of advertisers along with Cross Keys Homes and Peterborough City Council who have enabled the Herlington Centre premises to be developed as a radio and community studio which now have a variety of community uses. In the future when funding permits Radio Peterborough also hopes to operate a Radio Academy from the premises to enable local people to be taught radio and other skills.
