Peterborough’s Queensgate Shopping Centre has chosen to raise funds for blood cancer charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research through 2015 and 2016.
The shopping centre decided to pick this national charity due to its relevance to local people in the area.
Sam Eastwood, Centre Director for Queensgate Shopping Centre, said: “We are thrilled to announce Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research as the Queensgate Charity of the Year for 2015 – 2016. We will be giving our full support to the many exciting events they have planned throughout the year, as well as raising awareness and vital funds. I wish them well and myself and the team are looking forward to working with the charity over the next twelve months.”
Emma Jane Jones, Regional Manager for the Midlands said: “We are delighted to be chosen as the charity of the year by Queensgate. It provides an excellent opportunity for us to engage with the local community, to talk more about our vital work and reach new people.
“We have lots of partnership events planned throughout the year including a sunflower exhibition and competition, a bear hunt and a 600km static bike ride, the equivalent of cycling from Peterborough to Paris. We hope that the people of Peterborough will enjoy the events and get involved further with our work.
“People don’t realise blood cancers are the third biggest cancer killer andanyone can get blood cancer at any age. Every penny raised helps us in our mission to beat blood cancer, improve the lives of all those affected, and stop people from dying.”
