Last year saw the city’s first Peterborough Pride festival and it got off to an amazing start. Now it returns for the second year, flying the rainbow flag in a city-wide celebration offering something for everyone.
Running from Friday June 28 to Friday July 5, Peterborough Pride 2019 is packed with even more events and provides a platform for getting together and showing support for our LGBT+ friends and family.
We love a party and ESP is proud to be supporting Pride for the second year running.
Simon Green, co-ordinator of Peterborough Pride told ESP that there’s lots to look forward – “The programme’s even bigger this year.
“There are 40 different events this year, eight more than last year.
“Also there’s more for young people in this year’s programme.
“It’s a chance to celebrate, of course. Pride festivals are also a reminder of what’s been done, and a push to keep working toward full equality.
“Pride festivals have held an important place in gay history but even today they’re still vital to the LGBTQ rights movement.”
With everything from club nights to cinema events, drag queens to discos and theatre shows to a pink picnic this year’s Pride will be stepping up and stepping out.
But as we look forward to painting Peterborough all the colours of the rainbow, Simon tells us the team have ambitious plans for the future – “This is year two of a five year plan that will see Peterborough Pride become a regional leader on the national Pride programme.
“Peterborough Pride is unique and we’ll continue to promote the arts and culture by giving a platform to local talent and attracting performers and artists to the city.”
In addition to enjoying all the fantastic events, everyone’s being encouraged to think big and support in whatever way you can.
Even if it’s just displaying the rainbow flag you’ll be showing your support just as we have proudly on our front cover.
Things have definitely stepped up a gear for this year’s Pride – they’ve even got some new merch! So check them out on the social channels and the website for everything you need to know
Simon added – “Peterborough Pride is for everyone regardless of sexuality or gender identity.
“Let’s bring Peterborough together not just for PRIDE but into the future and create a city where everyone is respected and feels valued.”
