PETERBOROUGH CELEBRATES FESTIVAL RETURNS

Updated: Jan 31, 2023

It’s going to be another exciting year with Peterborough’s events calendar already filling up fast and we’re excited to see the return of the Peterborough Celebrates Festival at Nene Park.

The event was first launched last May and got off to a great start on a wonderful sunny weekend. ESP went along and loved it!

This year’s three-day community festival will be at Ferry Meadows once again and this time runs over the weekend of May 19 - 21 celebrating everything that makes Peterborough great – our culture, our diversity, our talented communities - and will also champion the natural world and bring the city together.

From grassroots community, music, food and drink, performances, theatre, crafts, arts and culture, poetry and literature, health and wellbeing and sports, there will be a packed, eclectic, and diverse schedule of activities and entertainment across the weekend at Ferry Meadows. It will be a real community festival, with something for everyone and the chance to experience and enjoy a wide range of different things.

Stephanie Peachey, Head of Visitor Engagement at Nene Park Trust said, “When you come to this year’s festival, you’ll find a riot of colour. The weekend is all about feeling good and we’re really excited about the huge variety of performances and the number of community groups and partners from the city who are supporting the festival. We hope we’re lucky with the weather like last year and are really looking forward to welcoming everyone to the Park and shining a spotlight again on the city’s rich sense of community.”

The three-day event will kick off with a schools showcase on the Friday, where schools from across Peterborough will be invited to join in, sharing music and performances. The city will come to Ferry Meadows on the Saturday, with the festival site alive with music, activities for all to get involved in, performances, and many surprising spectacles to discover and enjoy.

The Sunday will have a family-focused feel with more entertainment and activities and even a mass participation event! The Festival will be free-to-attend, but may include a ticketed performance on the Saturday evening. More details will be shared nearer the time.

A number of different Peterborough communities are already involved, and there’ll be plenty of activity across the city in the run up to the festival to create an exciting community art project, to be displayed for all to see throughout the festival weekend.

The event is being been run by a team at Nene Park Trust alongside involvement and support from local communities and organisations. If you’d like to get involved, through sponsoring or volunteering at the event, just get in touch. For more information about the festival, please visit www.peterboroughcelebratesfestival.co.uk
