The city centre will be alive with festival fun as the BBC’s Big Day Out event and Peterborough’s Portuguese Festival take over on Saturday July 19.
Join BBC Radio Cambridgeshire for a free, family fun packed music festival in the very heart of Peterborough at this charity event in aid of Sue Ryder’s ‘Raise the Roof’ for Thorpe Hall campaign.
It’s being held in Cathedral Square, hosting up to 10,000 people with the magnificent backdrop of Peterborough Cathedral.
Musically, there will be something for everyone to enjoy on the outdoor stage, whilst the streets will be brimming with traditional Portuguese food, drink, arts and crafts.
Sue Ryder, Thorpe Hall became BBC Radio Cambridgeshire’s Charity Partner at the start of the year and this is one of many fundraising events which aims to raise £6 million to build a new local hospice. Thorpe Hall provides incredible care for people with life-changing illness whether it’s helping people to make the most of their life, or bringing comfort to someone’s final days.
Kicking off at 1pm, the day will be bursting with rock ‘n’ roll, folk, electronic, opera, dance, rhythm and blues, top and tailed with a continental carnival infusion from Portugal. Expect to see a hot line-up of must see local talent, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire’s finest presenters, an injection of Portuguese hospitality and a very special headline guest who we guarantee will put his heart and soul into entertaining you.
Following on from Peterborough County Council’s successful Italian, Diwali and Latvian Festival’s, BBC have teamed up with The Portuguese community of Peterborough to bring an authentic continental twist to the day.
BBC presenters Paul Stainton, Jane Smith and Nick Carter will guide you through the day of crowd pleasing musical moments. You can expect the atmospheric electronic sounds from Radio 1 tipped Fenech Soler (pictured left). Fill your boots with some Americana folk music from award nominee Adrian Duffy.
The One Eyed Cats will get you dancing with Rock ‘n’ Roll and Rhythm and Blues favourites. Local choirs Peterborough Voices with the Sing for Life Women and The Take Note Community Choir will bring you songs from West End shows, choral favourites and ballads whilst dance act Goldstar turn up the volume with upbeat basslines under anthemic pop melodies.
Finally, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire’s Big Day Out will be brought to a perfect close by the stunning voice of Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts.
