It’s all outlaws, history and and heritage this Easter with two great events at Flag Fen Archaeology Park and Longthorpe Tower.
Medieval Outlaws (Saturday 2 – Sunday 3 April) is a fun living history event at Longthorpe Tower for all ages. Families are invited to step back in time to 1327, shortly after the tower was first built, and relive an event from its history. Robert Thorpe, who built the tower, is imprisoned and held to ransom in his own home by marauding brigands who are after his fortune.
The tower will be stormed daily by reenactors at 11am and 2pm and families can also meet and greet them throughout the weekend – a perfect opportunity to learn more about a unique event in Peterborough’s history as well as seeing some live medieval combat into the bargain.
Tickets are £4 adults, £3 concessions, £10 families (English Heritage members receive a 20% discount on admission).
Must Farm Weekend at Flag Fen (Saturday 9 – Sunday 10 April) celebrates a discovery made in January this year, when a significant Bronze Age site was found near Peterborough; much of which had been preserved almost perfectly beneath the soil due to a fire approximately 3,000 years ago.
Dubbed ‘Britain’s Pompeii’ by national media, the archaeologists who discovered ‘Must Farm’are coming to Flag Fen Archaeology Park for one weekend only and will be bringing some of their finds with them. This is an excellent opportunity for people of all ages to get an exclusive up close experience with these significant artefacts, talk to real-life archaeologists and see a piece of history that only a handful of people in the world have yet encountered.
‘The Big Dig’ tent will also be open for budding young archaeologists as well as plenty of craft activities too, meaning there’s fun for all ages. Tickets are £8 adults, £5 concessions, £20 families (2 adults & 2 children).
