O’Neill’s Irish pub in Peterborough is ramping up its St. Patrick’s Day celebrations this year by raising money for city based charity Shine through a string of exciting St Patrick’s Day events.
These include its annual ‘Join the Jig’ event, where participants will be taught a few Irish dance steps to celebrate the Patron Saint of the Emerald Isle.
The fun doesn’t stop there, as locals are also invited to events including Karaoke on Thursday March 13 with Join the Jig and charity night starting at 9pm. Friday March 14 brings Tribal Misfits to the stage from 10.30pm.
Saturday and Sunday is the big sporting extravaganza. The final day of Six Nations Rugby with Italy v England 1.30pm, Wales v Scotland 2.45pm and France v Ireland 6pm promises to be a epic conclusion. Sunday March 16 they have Live Football on all screens for a massive derby day. Liverpool v Man Utd at 1.30 and Spurs v Arsenal at 4pm. And of course the grand conclusion to the week of St Patrick’s Day where the doors will open from 10am for the biggest party day of the year.
Throughout the week their staff will be raising money for Shine through charity collections, raffles and face painting on St Patricks Day and the team from Shine will be there on the jig night and on St Patrick’s Day.
They will also be supporting the charity with a donation from the sales of St Patrick’s merchandise so make sure you buy your Guinness hats!
Another way you can support the chrity is by paying £3.50 for a pint of the black stuff as Shine will have an 11p donation from EVERY pint sold!
On St. Patrick’s Day itself, the celebrations at O’Neill’s in Peterborough promise to be among the best in town, with acoustic music throughout the day and Blackout performing well into the night.
The Peterborough pub is also one of 49 O’Neill’s pubs rallying support from locals to sign a government e-petition to make St. Patrick’s Day a national bank holiday, so that they can celebrate with a day off work and a few pints of Guinness.
Those wanting to join the petition should visit www.oneills.co.uk/jointhepetition, where they can sign their support to the government petition – signing and sending a confirmation email takes just two minutes. 100,000 signatures are required for the petition to be put to the Houses of Parliament and the idea has already gained support from Westlife and Strictly Come Dancing Star, Nicky Byrne, who has pledged his support in a video on www.oneills.co.uk/stpatricksday. Locals in Peterborough are also invited to take part by visiting O’Neill’s in Peterborough and posing for their very own pledge photo or video.
