Crowds flocked to Peterborough’s new Waitrose – which opened its doors today (30 Oct) on Mayors Walk. ESP’s Mikey Clarke took a sneaky peek…
I recently had the pleasure of attending a special tour of the new multi-million pound store and wasn’t expecting much – it’s a supermarket after all. But, I was genuinely blown away.
A bunch of new features will make your shopping trip here a unique experience. The Café provides delicious dishes made only with ingredients found in the store. The Juice Bar will mean you can try a glass of goodness – either sat at the juice counter or whilst you shop.
What really makes the store standout is that fact that the Fish, Meat, and Bakery counters all have seating areas – meaning that you can take a quick break from your shopping, sit down, and indulge in some of the food that each area has to offer.
During the Waitrose tour, the champagne was flowing and I may have had one glass too many. The wife was not impressed. Luckily for me, the store also boasts a new Welcome Desk with a Flower and gift wrapping service.

If that isn’t enough, if you sign up for a ‘My Waitrose Card’ you can grab a free cup of tea or coffee too!
I had a chat with the Branch Manager, Jon Ashley-Webb, who said, “It’s been twenty six weeks since the first shovel went into the ground. To see how great the new store looks in such a quick time is amazing. It was a real team effort.”
Jon continued, “The team and I are very proud of the store. It has all the latest innovative products and services. We’ve really gone all out with hospitality, with coffee available in six areas of the store and the opportunity for customers to eat certain foods inside the store if they’d like to.”
The site has a 240-space car park and will provide 100 people with jobs. Having seen it for myself – I think the new Waitrose will do VERY well.
