LUNCH AT KATANA

Katana, the Japanese pan-Asian venue on Peterborough’s Broadway, is more than just a restaurant – it’s an experience like no other in the city! ESP's food reporter Kelly Jackson gave lunch a try...

Despite opening its doors last year, I’d yet to pay a visit, despite being partial to Asian cuisine. So, when a group of friends suggested a long overdue lunch date at Katana, it was a resounding yes from me.

As soon as I stepped through the door, I was blown away by the huge blossom tree standing proudly in the middle of the main dining area. It’s not a sight you see often inside a restaurant.

At Katana, diners can either choose from the standard a la carte menu or pre-book one of the six teppanyaki live cooking stations for a unique culinary adventure.

My group selected from the weekend lunch set menu; for £24.95 you can enjoy two courses and a drink, or three courses and a drink from £29.95. And if you have little ones, kids under 11 can eat for free. My friends and I opted for a starter and a main, with a glass of Prosecco.

To start, I had salmon croquette – deep fried salmon with potato in breadcrumbs, served with teriyaki sauce. It was the perfect size for a starter, while leaving plenty of room for the main dish.

Next, I chose the Panko Chicken Katso Curry – breaded chicken breast in traditional Java curry sauce. The food was delicious, high quality, elegantly presented and superb value for money.

Katana regularly updates its menus to keep the experience fresh for guests, which means you’ll likely find different food to feast upon from your previous visit.

During our meal, we were entertained by the sight and sounds of whooshing flames from the nearby live cooking demo tables. That’ll be my next booking!

The restaurant is open every day at varying times, while the bar is open from Wednesday to Sunday. Katana in Peterborough is truly a feast for all the senses – if you haven’t been, add it to your list of places to try in 2024.
