‘Snow’ fell at Serpentine Green last night (Thursday November 17) as the big lights switch on officially launched Christmas at the shopping centre.

Singers Verity and Violet entertained crowds of families getting them in the mood with Christmas themed songs before two of the cast from this year’s Cresset panto took to the stage.

The dame from Peter Pan – Mrs Smee – amused the crowd and then Santa and children from Hampton Hargate School joined in a lantern parade, walking the length of the shopping centre with their lanterns.

Then everyone was asked to participate in Serpentine Green’s very own Mannequin Challenge before Santa and the panto stars came back on stage to switch on the lights.

As the button was pressed and the lights came on, shoppers were showered with ‘snow’ which delighted the children and the adults!

Travel Choice were also at the centre with their pedal powered Christmas Tree promoting sustainable travel.

Sohail Ilyas from Travelchoice told ESP – “Travelchoice aims to reduce single occupancy car journeys by promoting more sustainable modes of travel such as walking or cycling. We decided to have a pedal powered Christmas tree as an engaging way of introducing cycling, in addition to this we had a stand promoting ‘be seen be safe’ therefore we had children ‘bling their high vis’.”

Sohail added – “The work with Serpentine Green ties into a bigger project being run in the Hampton area where we are running a residential travel planning project which provides bespoke travel information to residents with an aim to reduce single occupancy car journeys.”

Next up, we can look forward to the arrival of the Coca-Cola truck on Tuesday December 13.

The Coca-Cola Christmas Truck Tour will be pulling into Serpentine Green with their brand new winter wonderland experience.

Visit the truck for photo opportunities, a free can of your favourite Coca-Cola and a chance to see a surprise Christmas animation, screened onto the side of the truck after dark.

It will be parked up at Serpentine Green 1pm – 9pm.

Serpentine Green is open late for all your Christmas shopping with free parking so check for details.
