LIDO EXTENDS SEASON

Ninety years of Peterborough Lido is kicking off with an extended season!

The iconic Lido turns 90 this year and the birthday celebrations have been given a real boost with the news that the 2026 season will be brought forward, with the pool open for public use from Saturday March 28. 

The season will run for six months until the end of September – that’s almost twice as long as last year and is great news for the city. The much-loved outdoor pool provides heated swimming, fitness, relaxation and fun across its three pools, green space and café.

The Vivacity team, who operate the Lido said; “This is great news that we know our customers will be delighted to hear.  The start of the Lido season is always an exciting time in our calendar and this year more than ever before we are going all out with special events and activities for the whole family to enjoy.  We feel passionately about providing safe, fun, accessible swimming for everyone, but also want to shout about the Lido’s fantastic history and bring that to life!  More announcements about the exciting events we are planning throughout the season will be coming soon!”

Along with the extended season, work’s underway to install new pool covers to help reduce the running costs of keeping the pools heated water warm.

Clare Marshall who chairs the Lido Friends group, reacted; “Friends of Peterborough Lido are thrilled to hear that the Lido is opening earlier this year and for a longer season. Over the winter months, we have been busy meeting with PCC and Vivacity and sharing our members' ideas for the 90th birthday celebrations and are now really looking forward to being involved in the celebrations this season, including launching the sale of our 90 years of Peterborough Lido book of 100 pages of photographs, history and personal memories. 

“We are so lucky to have this wonderful facility with such a rich heritage in the centre of our city and really want to encourage everyone to come down and swim there this season to be part of this 90th birthday year.”
