Hands up who knows their local history and is aware Katherine of Aragon was laid to rest at Peterborough Cathedral.
Not bad… well do you also realise we celebrate our connections with King Henry VIII’s first wife every January with a special festival? This year it’s taking place from January 24 – 29 and includes services, cathedral tours, talks, walks and a Tudor living history day.
Katherine of Aragon came from Spain to be King Henry VIII’s first wife, but her divorce from him had far-reaching repercussions for the whole of Europe. After her death she was laid to rest in Peterborough Cathedral, where her tomb remains to this day.
On Saturday January 26 there’s a fantastic Living History Day from 10am – 4.30pm where you can meet Katharine, Henry VIII and a cast of Tudor characters at the Cathedral, accompanied by period music from Hautbois.
Tickets cost £5 from the Visitor Information Centre or by calling 01733 452336.
