TV presenter Alison Hammond – set to star as the genie in Aladdin at the Cresset this Christmas – has been confirmed as the third celebrity taking part in the new series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Alison announced the news on ITV’s This Morning earlier today ( Tuesday August 19).
Alison made her name as a contestant on the third series of Big Brother back in 2002. Before that she was a child actress, holiday rep and cinema usherette.

Alison says: “I am absolutely overjoyed to be joining the Strictly team. I am ready to immerse myself in glitter and hard work, with a dash of fun along the way!”
Birmingham-born Alison has also appeared on a number of other high profile television shows during her career including All Star Family Fortunes, Celebrity Coach Trip and the 2010 series of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
Alison is no stranger to pantomime, and has appeared most recently in Jack & The Beanstalk at The Deco Theatre in Northampton, and in Beauty & The Beast at London’s Shaw Theatre.
On her forthcoming appearance at The Cresset from December 12 she said: “I am thrilled to playing the Genie in Aladdin this year and performing in Peterborough. I am really looking forward to the lamp being rubbed so that I can come out and make everyone’s wishes come true.”
